Michelle Smart, Founder and President

Michelle Smart has been a Maple Valley resident since 2008. She grew up in rural Arkansas, received a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from Brigham Young University in 2003, and then moved to Washington state. She has devoted significant time to volunteer efforts, including teaching English in Bulgaria, teaching children’s music, and teaching children of all ages at church. When she has a few spare minutes, she enjoys researching family history, gardening, and playing board games.

Michelle has extensive experience with highly capable children. She was a gifted student herself, as were her siblings. She became interested in gifted education as a field when she saw her three highly capable sons’ needs not being fully met at school. In August of 2019 she earned a Master’s in Education: Curriculum and Instruction for Gifted Education from Arizona State University. She is passionate about gifted education because “All children, including gifted children, deserve to be met where they are.”
